“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all,and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
Worship is a reflection of what you & I value most. What do you spend most of your time, money and energy on? Follow that path and there you will find the object of your worship. In John 4:23 it says ‘yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks’ In spirit and in truth… Id like to suggest that the truth here in this context refers to the promise of salvation that has been fufilled through the death of Jesus, that through him we’re not just able to inherit the riches of God’s kingdom ie. eternal life, we’re also linked, so to speak, with God. and I think that’s exactly what separates praise from worship. Any living creature that has breath and can speak is able to praise god, but only those which are saved are able to to connect TO god and WITH god in a two way relationship based on unfailing, unceasing love. Which leads me to think… while we are always on God’s agenda, is he always on ours? If he isnt, worship wouldn’t be exactly valid here now, would it? If it was a lifestyle as we like to call it, our life would be planned around God, whom we hold the greatest value in. Otherwise, God is only subject to your own convenience and pleasure. That’s how serious it gets.
If you read Matthew 4, Satan tempted Jesus three times.
Jesus replied first that ‘Man does not live on bread alone’
Then he really irritates Satan when he replies ‘Do not put the lord your god to the test’ to his next tempt.
Look closely at the last temptation that satan threw at Jesus.
‘All this I will give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me’
To which jesus said, ‘Worship the Lord your god, and serve him only’.
This was satan’s last resort, that he would give Jesus the kingdoms of the earth and their splendour should he worship him. That’s effectively saying that in our pursuits for the worldly, we are indirectly worshipping the ungodly. Scary aint it.
Who are you really worshipping today? Re-structure your life to build it around what really is important to you, and let Jesus lay the bricks, because then not even the fiercest of storms can shake you out of God’s protection.
